What Bike Can I use?
In BMX Racing there are 2 different wheel sizes that you can race:
1) 20” BMX Bike – both wheels must be a maximum of 20”in diameter
2) 24” BMX Bike – both wheels will measure a diameter of 24”, this BMX is called a Cruiser
Handlebar grips are required and must cover any metal on the ends of the handle bar frame (no torn ends allowed).
BMX Race bikes have rear brakes only.
IF you are not using a BMX Race bike on the track then you must alter your bike for the safety of you and fellow riders. These adjustments must be made to your bike for your safety:
1) LOWER THE SEAT, as low as it will go. When riding on the BMX track riders do not sit, you will stand and learn to properly ride the track over the ‘bumps’ (more to come on this later!!), sitting will impede your ability to properly ride on the track
2) If you are bringing your own bike to the track, or if you have made the same mistake I did and purchased a BMX, not realizing you need a Race BMX, you will need to strip your bike of the following components: reflectors, kickstands, chain guards, freestyle pegs and bell. Gears are allowed but are not needed.
If you want to join me at the track, we can size you up for the correct size of bike to help provide you with the best possible BMX riding experience.
