"I encourage you and yours to come give this a try.”
There is a lot to say about the sport of BMX racing. I will try and touch on a few of the things that I believe make it such a special sport, and such a special community. Like many individual sports, BMX is an incredible confidence builder in kids. They are winning and losing on their own. They move up to a higher ability category on their own. They develop coping strategies to deal with stress and pressure on their own. The challenges that they face, and then overcome, help build them into strong confident kids that are prepared for challenges in their lives.
This is not to say that they are on their own during their time racing. Far from it! The BMX community is without a doubt the most supportive, positive, and enthusiastic group of people you are likely to meet anywhere. New riders are shepherded and coached by not only our certified top tier coaches, but also by the older, more experienced riders at the track. It is a cornerstone of our sport that more advanced riders give back, and help train the younger, less experienced riders. In this way, the kids learn to lead, to give back, and to see that they make a difference in their sport.
The parents in our community are what makes all of this possible. They understand that ours can be a dangerous sport, and that just to make it around the track without crashing is a feat all by itself. They support with positivity and encouragement, instead of criticism and negativity. Our sport is completely volunteer driven, and the parents that give up so much of their time to make races, practices, and other events happen, are what keeps our sport possible.
I could go on about BMX racing for quite a while, but I would rather welcome you to our track, and get you and your family on some bikes to go have some fun. I started racing when I was 12 years old, and I am back doing it at 51. My family of four all race with me all over Alberta. On behalf of my family, and my extended BMX family, I encourage you and yours to come give this a try! You wont be disappointed!

"It builds a family that supports you"
The BMX community has been an integral part of my life for over 30 years. Not only is this my passion, it is my heart.
It has been an opportunity to be part of something meaningful because of long lasting friendships that have resulted from being part of this community. It builds a family that supports you, they are a hidden treasure that you find when you join BMX. BMX does not distinguish or create barriers with race, culture, gender etc. I have been so fortunate to join the St. Albert BMX who have welcomed me with open arms and lend me a hand so I, and for others, to reach their full potential. I now have a new family and home.
