St. Albert BMX track receives provincial grant for new build
Exciting news for St Albert BMX, on January 21, 2023 St. Albert-Morinville MLA Dale Nally announced a $550,000 grant from the provincial government to upgrade the existing BMX track in St. Albert, AB.
St. Albert BMX Association had been fundraising, with the hope of turning the track into a world-class facility, and will now be able to start the upgrade in Spring of 2023.
The new track will have 2 start hills, an 8 meter start hill for professional BMX racers, and a 5 meter start hill for amateur and new riders. The ideology behind this new build is to be as inclusive as possible, allowing riders of all skill levels an opportunity to train, if you can ride a bike, we want you to be riding and training at St Albert BMX!
The new track will put St Albert on the map, to have a training track that will enable our athletes to train and compete on a world stage, and host races on a world stage with hundreds of riders of all skill levels.
This will be the only Supercross BMX facility in Canada that will be publicly accessible – so in comes the famous saying “Build it and they will come” (made famous by Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams)
"To have this level of a facility that can enable us to train to a level that we'll need for that worldwide competition, whether it's Olympics or world championships." Said Mike Hook, President St Albert BMX.
The excitement that we have at our small northern Alberta club is overwhelming, thank you to the Alberta BMX Supercross Association for your dedication and hard work in making this build come to fruition.
Excited to watch this build progress over the Spring of 2023, and CANNOT WAIT to see our club members and riders from around the world enjoy this new track!
Check in for more updates as the build progresses!
